Walls and Bridges: Mexico/US Border Culture

Catalog description

Culture will explore the ways in which artists have depicted the diversity of experiences of crossing, settling or living in the border regions between the U.S. and Mexico. We will focus on fiction poetry, essays, and films from the beginning of the 20 th century to the present. We will reflect on: How and why have representations of the border changed over time? How are political, social and economic events influencing artistic representations of it? How does national identities are constructed in the border context? What alternative cultural discourses have emerged from the contemporary of border artists? A substantial final research project will be conducted. Conducted in Spanish. Satisfies Post 1800 requirement. Prerequisites & Notes Spanish 260 or 271/272 or their equivalents.
