Catalog description

Criminology delves into the dynamics of crime, its causes, and its control across diverse societies and regions worldwide. By investigating international and transnational criminological issues such as human trafficking, drug trafficking and violence, terrorism and counterterrorism, and genocide and mass killing, this course examines how changing economic, political, and security dynamics on local, regional, and global levels affect maintaining social order, reinforcing social control, or leading criminalization of society. In addition, this course reviews the position of the United States in its global community regarding global crime and crime control and the roles and responsibilities of international organizations/institutions against global crimes. Through the analysis of international case studies and comparative research, students will develop a profound understanding of the complexities of crime and its responses with a critical perspective.
