Catalog description

This course explores the variety of ways that early and medieval Christians understood saintliness. Beginning with a close look at how Jesus is portrayed in one of the four Gospels, the course will proceed to examine later types of Christian sanctity and their biblical precedents. These will include some or all of the following: the apostle, the prophet, the martyr, the hermit, the monk, the consecrated virgin, and the mystic. Satisfies Religious Studies major and minor requirement. Satisfies Philosophical and Religious Perspectives requirement.
