Catalog description

An overview and survey of the place of nature and its study in the premodern Muslim heritage. We will examine the Islamic worldview, imagination and study of nature through Islam’s scriptural, mystical, philosophical, scientific, theological, and legal traditions and texts, but also through its literary and cultural expressions such as architecture, gardens, art, poetry, storytelling and daily life. Satisfies Environmental Studies major requirement. Satisfies Arab Studies major and minor requirement. Satisfies a requirement in the South Asian Studies interdisciplinary minor. Satisfies a requirement in the Middle Eastern Studies interdisciplinary minor. Satisfies the Philosophical and Religious Perspectives requirement. Satisfies the Cultural Diversity requirement.
