Hindu Gods and Goddesses

Catalog description

The primary focus of this course is to understand the myriad representations of Hindu gods and goddesses across pre-modern narratives, material objects, and contemporary rituals. This seminar utilizes several group and experiential assignments to help students understand how Hindu practitioners and non-practitioners can encounter and interact with different forms of divinity in Hindu traditions. The final assignment is a collaborative project in which students will design, script, and produce a 45-minute podcast on the historical establishment, development, and flourishing of the Trimurti Temple Devasthanam in Charlotte. Satisfies Religious Studies major and minor requirement. Satisfies a requirement for the Interdisciplinary Minor in South Asian Studies. Satisfies the Philosophical & Religious Perspectives Ways of Knowing requirement. Satisfies the Cultural Diversity Graduation requirement.
