An overview of Islam ethical thought and life. What do seminal Muslim thinkers and texts have to say about the meaning and purpose of human life? How do various facets of Islamic life and thought (e.g., religion, revelation, prophetic example, piety, law, philosophy, theology, literature, and spirituality) shape Muslim visions of an ideal society? What difference does centrality of God make to living a good life? What is Islamic vision for the political and economic dimensions of life? Finally, how did Muslims enact and express these visions and commitments in their societies, institutions and daily life? Satisfies a Middle Eastern Studies interdisciplinary minor requirement.
