Seminar: Early Social Learning

Catalog description

Why is the sky blue? Are we there yet? How do children learn and how do they decide whom to ask their many and varied questions about the world around them? One key way in which children learn about their natural and social worlds is through conversation and interaction with social others, including more knowledgeable peers and adults like parents and teachers. Importantly, in today’s world, children are also spending time with and learning from AI, technology, and social media. We will consider foundational theories in developmental psychology and education in dialogue with contemporary research on these topics. Additionally, a critical component of the course invites students to grapple with the practical implications of this body of research for applied settings.
