Catalog description

Community psychology investigates how social, cultural, economic, political, and environmental factors influence mental and physical health, development, and well-being. Research methods in community psychology emphasize citizen participation, empowerment, respect for diversity, sense of community, and strengths-based approaches to produce actionable results that promote more equitable systems. In this course, we will 1) examine community-based research approaches, 2) utilize these approaches to design program evaluations in partnership with local organizations, and 3) analyze data to answer research questions related to community and equity. Satisfies Psychology major requirement. Satisfies Social-Scientific Thought requirement. Satisfies Justice, Equality, and Community requirement. Prerequisites & Notes PSY 200 or permission of the instructor.
