This seminar is an exploration of the concept of justice in the United States. The course has three primary components: Theory, practice, and challenges. We begin by examining notions of justice, their origins, and development over time. We will also look at the mechanics of the justice system in the United States and how the justice system attempts to live up to ideals of justice and fairness. Finally, we address issues that arise when people and institutions fail to live up to those ideals. Satisfies a requirement in the Political Science major. Satisfies the Justice, Equality, and Community requirement.
