Catalog description

A study of modern and postmodern music, combining close listening (e.g. Schoenberg, Cage, Reich) with critical responses to its aesthetic and ideological contexts (e.g. Adorno, Jameson, McClary). Representative genres include: symphony, string quartet, opera, film score, performance art. Prerequisites & Notes First-year students require permission of the instructor.
