Catalog description

This course is an introduction to knot theory, a subfield of topology. Topics include Reidemeister’s Theorem, knot tabulation, and Seifert surfaces. We will discuss knot invariants including Fox n-colorability, the Jones polynomial, crossing number, and unknotting number. Satisfies Mathematics major and minor requirement. Prerequisites & Notes MAT 220 or 230
