This course examines the impact of the First Great East Asian War, involving Korea, China, and Japan. Current tensions in East Asia continue to be understood through the memorial lens of this conflict. Some issues discussed are: war and memory, dead bodies, martyrdom, and subjecthood. Students entering 2012 and after: satisfies Historical Thought requirement. Students entering before 2012: satisfies History requirement. Satisfies the cultural diversity requirement.
