Catalog description

This course will explore the long and complicated history of Islam in South Asia, from the arrival of the Arabs in the eighth century to the emergence of Pakistan and Bangladesh in the twentieth, through both lectures and visits to sites of historical and artistic importance. Satisfies a major requirement in History. Satisfies an interdisciplinary minor requirement in South Asian Studies. Students entering 2012 and after: satisfies Historical Thought requirement. Students entering before 2012: satisfies history requirement. Satisfies the cultural diversity requirement.
