Catalog description
This course provides a broad overview of the important intellectual, cultural, economic, and political developments in China, Japan, and Korea from prehistoric times until 1850. Particular attention will be paid to philosophical traditions, political dynamics, material culture, the Mongol Empire, trade, women’s roles in society, literature, and social change. Counts as a pre-modern course in the History major and minor. Satisfies a requirement in the East Asian Studies major and minor. Satisfies the Historical Thought requirement. Satisfies the Cultural Diversity requirement.
