ENV 219
Weather and Climate
Davidson College · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course takes a deep dive into Earth’s atmosphere and hydrosphere and how they change over space and time. Topics of study will include atmospheric composition, atmospheric dynamics and their expression in everyday events, linkages between the atmosphere and hydrosphere, and how they interact with the biosphere. These processes, despite their immediacy and effect on personal level, are not readily understood. Physical laws and principles that play out in meteorology and climatology will be introduced. The course may include outdoor activities geared towards understanding atmospheric phenomena. Learners will be able to distinguish weather from climate, and carry on informed conversations with an understanding of the “why” of occurrences.
