Catalog description
This course introduces students to examples of African American literature and literary criticism from the 20th to 21st centuries. Major authors from the Harlem Renaissance to the Black Arts Movement and beyond will be considered alongside theoretical formulations from critics such as Barbara Christian, Michael Awkward, and Henry Louis Gates. Satisfies the Diversity requirement of the English Department major. Satisfies the Humanities elective in the Africana Studies major. Satisfies elective in the Global Literary Theory Interdisciplinary minor. Satisfies the LTRQ Ways of Knowing requirement. Satisfies the Cultural Diversity requirement.
