Catalog description

From King John (1899) and Hamlet (1900) to 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) and Gnomeo and Juliet (2011), the plays of William Shakespeare have appeared on the silver screen since the dawn of motion pictures. This course will focus on several of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, as we explore how directors and actors have reinterpreted his works cinematically. Along the way, we will learn about methods of film analysis, as well as theories of reception and adaption. Satisfies English major and minor requirement. Satisfies the LTRQ Ways of Knowing requirement.
