Catalog description

This class, to borrow a phrase from Ross Gay, is “a laboratory of wonder and care.” The course is designed to help us investigate our truths and find the best way to represent this grappling in prose. Along the way, we’ll consider how the world reflects the self and how the self reflects the world. In order to fit together the eye and the I , we will read and write in several subgenres of creative nonfiction, including memoir, travel, immersion, and personal essays. We will work through craft techniques and formal structures in order to examine the best ways of telling truthful stories. We will offer feedback to each other in a supportive environment, and we will write our own truths as best we can. Satifies the Literary Studies, Creative Writing, and Rhetoric requirement.
