Catalog description

This course in 21st century American cinema will concentrate on feature films, documentaries, television, and animation–all from the last ten years. The study of film includes well-established terms describing elements of principal photography, production, and post-production; as a result, the work in “Contemporary American Cinema” will include formal analysis using film studies terminology. But the terminology will also be applied, as we will read film methodically and analytically. Two essays, one small group project, and some shorter writing exercises will be required; a midterm and final can be expected. Satisfies English major and minor requirement. Satisfies Digital and Screen Media major requirement. Satisfies Film and Media Studies minor requirement.
