Federal Reserve Challenge

Catalog description
A small group of selected students works together to formulate a monetary policy recommendation for the U.S. central bank, emulating the Federal Open Market Committee, and five members of the class will present this recommendation in the annual Federal Reserve Challenge Competition to the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Students use macroeconomic theory, data, and cutting-edge research to analyze current economic conditions. Each student will prepare an independent monetary policy briefing that is supported by mathematical theory and scholarly research. Satisfies Economics major and minor requirement. Prerequisites & Notes ECO 101, 203, 204, and Calculus 1. Admittance to the course is determined by a selection committee, based on application to the submission portal, prior to April 1.
