Catalog description

This course examines the ethical, social, and cultural dimensions of artificial intelligence. Through fiction, film, historical and theoretical readings, and hands-on work with AI tools and techniques, students will explore critical questions about AI and machine learning. The course will also critique representations of AI in popular culture. The course places a particular emphasis on understanding the intersection of AI with power, justice, labor, and the environment. This course does not count for the Computer Science major or minor. Satisfies Digital and Screen Media major requirement. Satisfies Digital Studies minor requirement. Counts as an elective in the Data Science interdisciplinary minor. Satisfies Justice, Equality and Community requirement.
