Placental Stress Responses

A. Smith Course Description: The placenta is an organ that supports the growth and development of the fetus during pregnancy. Chemical and molecular signals originating with the birthing parent can alter placental function. In this group investigation course, students will design and execute experiments to examine the cellular and molecular responses of placental cells to increased levels of stress hormone. Students will read, interpret and apply primary literature, generate and analyze data, and present scientific data in written and oral formats. Prerequisites & Notes Introductory biology (BIO111/113 and 112/114) and any upper-level Group A lab course (BIO 201, 202, 208, 209, 303, 306, 307, 333, 309, 343) or CHE 230, or Permission of Instructor.
