Introduction to C. elegans Models of Neurobiology and Genetics Research

Catalog description
This group investigation is open to all but prioritizes first- and second-year students with limited or no prior research experience. Students will collaboratively engage in a genetics and/or neurobiology research project using the important model organism C. elegans (a roundworm). Students will learn a variety of laboratory techniques (e.g., genetics, genome editing, optogenetics, laser surgery, imaging, and behavior) in conjunction with reviewing relevant research literature and presenting their results. Students will also discuss issues of equity and inclusion in the sciences specifically and meet with working scientists over zoom. Satisfies Genomics minor requirement. Satisfies Biology major requirement. Satisfies Neuroscience minor requirement. Prerequisites & Notes BIO111/113 (no permission required) or another introductory lab course (permission required).
