Catalog description

Focused on the peer-reviewed scientific literature, in this course we focus on understanding important patterns of biodiversity and the processes that lead to these patterns. We consider the function and value of biodiversity to humans and the natural world and evaluate the efficacy of approaches to the conservation of biodiversity at local, regional, and global scales. Students acquire transferable skills including data analysis, experimental design, and the interpretation of statistical results. Satisfies a depth and breadth course requirement in the Natural Science track of the Environmental Studies major and minor. Prerequisites & Notes Successful completion of BIO 112/114/116 or ENV 101 or 201 Not open to students with credit for BIO 227.
