Catalog description

This course is designed to provide an introduction to the structural organization of the human body. The theme of functional anatomy will be emphasized through the analysis of shape and composition and the correlation of structure with function. The student will gain a comprehensive and integrated overview of structure and function through the study of tissues and four major systems - the musculoskeletal, digestive, cardiovascular, and nervous. Attention will be given to the importance of understanding human health and illness from an evolutionary perspective. In lab, the student will learn gross anatomy via regional examination . Clinical correlations with radiology, surgery, and human disease will be an integral part of the course. The goal of the course is to help the student gain in-depth knowledge of the human body and develop the skills. Needed to be informed healthcare consumers and thoughtful advocates for quality healthcare. Satisfies the Group B requirement for the Biology major. Satisfies Public Health major and minor requirement. Prerequisites & Notes Successful completion of BIO 111/113/115 AND BIO 112/114/116. Satisfies Group B.
