Catalog description

Theoretical and interpretive perspectives in modern cultural anthropology. Issues include functionalism, historical analysis, cultural evolution, ecology, cultural materialism, structuralism, and symbolic analysis. Writings of major thinkers, including Radcliffe-Brown, Harris, Levi-Strauss, Douglas, Geertz, Turner, Godelier, and Sahlins. One of the courses satisfying the Theory requirement for the major in Anthropology. Satisfies the Social-Scientific Thought requirement. Prerequisites & Notes ANT 101 or permission of the instructor.
