Catalog description

Explores how gender ideologies shape the exercise of power upon men and women in different societies and cultures. Topics include the construction of masculinity and femininity, commodification and consumption of gender, social position, agency, and the political economy of gender. Emphasis on developing an understanding of different theoretical perspectives in the cross-cultural study of gender. Satisfies a major & minor requirement in Anthropology. Satisfies a requirement in the Communication Studies interdisciplinary major and minor. Satisfies a major & minor requirement in Gender and Sexuality Studies. Satisfies the Social-Scientific Thought requirement. Prerequisites & Notes (Offered in alternating years.)
