Critical Thinking and Writing through Literature

(formerly ENGL C1003 , Critical Analysis and Literature). Term hours: 72 lecture. In this course, students receive instruction in analytical, critical, and argumentative writing. Students develop critical thinking, close reading and literary analysis skills, research strategies, information literacy, and knowledge of accurate documentation through the study of diverse literary works from a variety of literary genres, developing an appreciation for literature. This course will develop critical thinking, reading and writing skills as they apply to the analysis of literature and literary criticism from diverse cultural sources and perspectives. There will be an emphasis on the techniques and principles of effective written argument as they apply to literature. Students will demonstrate this understanding by writing and critiquing essays and utilizing research strategies. Duplicate credit not granted for ENGL C1003H.
