(formerly ENGL C1002H , Honors Introduction to Literature). Term hours: 54 lecture. In this course, students are introduced to works by diverse authors and major literary genres, developing close reading and analytical writing skills. Students also develop appreciation for and critical understanding of the cultural, historical, and aesthetic qualities of literature. This is an honors course. This Honors enhanced course is a continuation of ENGL C1000 or ENGL 100HCC1000H. It builds from the inferential reading and expository writing of the first semester course to demonstrate reading comprehension as well as composition of the analytical and critical essay. The content introduces students to techniques and major authors of narrative fiction, drama, and poetry, providing them with an opportunity to enrich their lives, enhance their understanding of the human condition, and develop an appreciation of literature. The class is conducted as a seminar and will require additional writing and documented research assignments. Duplicate credit not granted for ENGL C1002. (UC/CSU, C-ID:ENGL 120).
