Term hours: 54 lecture. This course is an introduction to the major periods and movements, major authors, and major forms from the beginning of English literature to 1760. It covers works such as Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, as well as works from authors such as Marie de France, Chaucer, Marlowe, Shakespeare, Donne, Milton, Pope, and Swift.
