Catalog description

(formerly: ART 112HC, Honors Survey of Art History II.) Term hours: 54 lecture. This course provides an overview of art and architecture from the Renaissance to the contemporary period with a focus on art from Europe. The course will further consider global interactions involving this region. This is an honors course. This is an enhanced course that studies the development of architecture, sculpture, and painting of the Western world from the Renaissance through the twenty-first century. Emphasis is placed on examining how art records and shapes history, how style communicates the ideas of the artist and their culture, and how symbols, techniques, materials, and subjects are used and transferred from one culture to another. Cost of museum visit will not exceed $25.00. Duplicate credit not granted for ART C1200. (UC Credit Limitation/CSU, AA GE, CalGETC, C-ID:ARTH 120).
