(formerly: ART 111 C, Survey of Art History I.) Term hours: 54 lecture. This course introduces students to visual art and architecture from prehistory to the medieval era with a focus on art from Europe, North Africa, and the near East. The course will further consider global interactions involving these regions. This course studies the development of ancient and medieval architecture, sculpture, and painting in Western culture. Emphasis is placed on examining how art records and shapes history, how style communicates the ideas of the artist and his culture and how symbols, techniques, materials and subjects are used and transferred from one culture to another. Pass/No Pass/Letter Grade Option Cost of Museum visit will not exceed $25.00. (UC/CSU, AA GE, CalGETC, C-ID:ARTH 110)
