Enroll now to improve your communication skills and gain the practical knowledge and confidence required to work in police and fire departments, hospitals, ambulance services, call centers, colleges, or trucking and freight companies. Dispatch Communications is a 12-week course (192 hours) held on Saturdays and Sundays only, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., in the KeyBank Public Safety Training Center on the Western Campus. It’s designed to prepare U.S.-based students to take a national exam that leads to job placement and combines demo and hands-on training in the classroom, including: Practice handling single/multiple simulated calls with scenarios in law, fire and EMS using 911 dispatch software Exercises to learn to read maps effectively Keyboarding, listening and responding to actual 911 and nonemergency calls Skill-building exercises using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) Basic introductory course to emergency medical dispatch (EMD) Skills assessment exam to prepare students for Dispatcher Civil Service Exam Training on how to mitigate active threats Incident Command Training with FEMA ICS 100
