Storytelling and Contemporary Culture

Catalog description

In this course, we will examine the ways that theatre intersects with contemporary popular storytelling. In each unit of this class, we’ll learn about a different dramaturgical framework that originates in the theatre. We’ll read a play that exemplifies that framework, and will look at works of contemporary storytelling (in film, television, stand-up comedy, etc.) through that analytical lens. The goal of this class is to understand the ways that stories are built and examine the ways in which dramaturgical structures originating in the theater intersect with the most popular storytelling of our time.
