Supervised Clinical Teaching and Assessment of Adolescents with Disabilities (Adolescent Learning Lab) is the core yearlong practicum experience in the Adolescent Special Education Program at Hunter College. It is an off-site supervised practicum, providing intensive specially designed instruction for students with learning disabilities or other special needs in grades 7 - 12. Teacher candidates learn to develop specialized reading, math, writing, and transition based instruction that is structured and sequential. In addition, teacher candidates learn to apply knowledge and skills about assessment, progress monitoring family, culture, and school relations into their instruction. Video and computer use are aspects of the course that will complement coursework, seminars, and tutoring to build teacher candidates’ skills. (3 credits, 55 fieldwork hours).This Key Course requires a grade of B or better to pass. Any student who receives a grade of F or WU in this class will not be permitted to continue in the program. This course may be repeated only once.
