SPAN 38200
Consecutive Interpretation, Spanish-English and English-Spanish
Hunter College · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Students will be expected to develop and expand on their pre-interpreting skills: proficiency in both source and target languages, expansion of vocabulary (general, technical, regional, colloquial) and idiomatic expressions, and acquisition of knowledge in diverse fields to enhance subject familiarity, thus enabling ""sense prediction"" (anticipation of where logic leads), that will ultimately facilitate task performance. They will develop listening and recall skills through short-term memory exercises that focus on sequencing, visualization, and chunking. Emphasis will be placed on the need to retain both language and meaning. Students will learn about and develop a system of note taking as an additional tool aid memory. They will learn how to correct errors and request clarification.
