Globalization and Opposition Movements

Catalog description

This course assesses the effects of economic globalization in a wide range of areas in both industrialized and non-industrialized countries. Areas may include global warming, deforestation, North-South inequality, hunger and poverty, environmental degradation, the erosion of social capital, the spread of consumer culture, population growth, global resource limits, workers' and women's rights, and immigration. Positive and negative effects of globalization are assessed, including those on the natural environment, social equality, economic security, and the quality of life. Introduces radical, reformist, and neo-liberal perspectives on these problems. Analyzes the causes and consequences of movements that arise in opposition to globalization and its effects.
