This course offers a comprehensive overview of the most relevant topics on the vast, and still growing, field of immigrant health in the US. By relying on the sociological, anthropological and public health literature, this course will examine general policyissues involving immigrant populations in the US (e.g., immigration law and changes in welfare reform), the characteristics of service provision, the diversity of alternative healing systems and practices among immigrant populations, as well as the importance of socioeconomic and cultural determinants on health outcomes. Immigrants' differences in terms of culture and nationality, class, race/ethnicity, age, and gender will also be considered.
