Catalog description

This is the final course in a series of three sequential courses, using a systems-based approach, focusing on the care of patients in primary care. This course focuses on the ability to function independently as a licensed provider. Age and population-focused guidelines and tools for screening and management of diagnoses are utilized in the provision of the full spectrum of health care services, including health promotion, disease prevention, anticipatory guidance, disease management and palliative / end of life care. The role of the independent nurse practitioner as a leader of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, including transitional care is reinforced. Attention to fiscal implications, including coding, billing, reimbursement and patient-related costs, is incorporated, as are health policy, research, and ethical implications. A supervised practicum, with a focus on independent practice in primary care, provides opportunities for application of clinical concepts in actual practice.
