Crisis as Opportunity: Feminist reimagining of a world post- COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed and exacerbated deep injustices and inequities across the world, including in the United States. Women and girls’ rights are especially at risk. Most community and frontline care workers are female, but few have access to workplace protections, health and other services, for themselves and their families. Domestic violence has escalated, yet few survivors are able to seek the care and support they need. But in crisis there is opportunity. Returning to “normal” is both impossible and undesirable. Normal was intolerable and crushing to people and the planet. But what will emerge in its place? What will the new normal look like? The class will be global and nature, with some emphasis on work in the U.S. The course will be intergenerational and intersectional, addressing issues across the lifespan. Expert speakers will be invited, sharing practical examples of how they are leading change for women and girls’ rights. Students will have the opportunity to engage in discussions with feminist activists, researchers and practitioners from a wide variety of disciplines.
