Justice Equity Diversity & Inclusion Leadership 3: Families & Communities
Hunter College · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
In JEDI Leadership 3: Families & Communities, participants continue to investigate how to create a learning environment that is safe, supportive, and caring in which all participants - including families/caregivers - belong, are capable of success and have a voice in decision-making. Participants expand their inquiry beyond the school classrooms and into the community, learning from and with families and community members. Participants examine how their positions and identities impact their interactions with students, families and community members. Like in the prior semester, participants utilize inquiry processes to set goals, make hypotheses and facilitate interventions; only this time, the focus of their improvement efforts is to ensure a collaborative culture that partners with all constituencies, particularly students and families. Through inquiry, participants will gradually uncover the design of the current decision-making environment, that is the elements of the environment, intended and actual, that guide and shape decision-making, particularly in closing a gap between the school and families in support of student learning. As they do so, participants will become increasingly strategic and effective in leading change.
