Catalog description

As of the last 10 years the conventional treatment for cancer has been surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. However, within recent years the development of new research methodology has led to enormous progress in understanding the molecular mechanism and the mircoenvironment of the primary tumor and metastasis process. The knowledge that was acquired in these areas demonstrates the importance of the immune system in the microenvironment at the primary site and in the progression of cancer. As a result of this, new treatments for cancer were developed - the most notable being immunotherapy. The students in this course will learn about the molecular and cellular mechanisms of the development of cancer and new concepts in the cancer field, such as, personalized medicine. Additionally, they will learn about immunotherapy, the latest treatment for cancer.
