Senior Honors Project

Catalog description
An independent course of study for senior students conducted in one area of concentration with the guidance of an Honors Project Mentor and resulting in a coherent body of work and leading to honors in the major. The student will concentrate on an individual creative investigation according to goals, methods and concerns agreed upon with the Honors Project. Emphasis will be placed on the creation of a distinctive body of work in a given medium, and on research into related work and the history and ideas that inform it. At the end of the semester, the student will present this body of work to his or her Project Mentor and a small committee of professors appointed by the Chair and defend it with a prepared statement based upon his or her research. This studio course emphasizes creative work in a given visual arts medium. The only writing assignment requires the articulation of ideas regarding the character of that work. The student will conduct research into work by achieved artists that specifically informs his or her area of studio practice.
