Caribbean Migration and New York City

Catalog description

This course is an examination of the lives of English speaking Caribbean immigrants in New York. It looks at the historical and current reasons in the Caribbean that led to a culture of emigration from the region. It also examines the ways in which Caribbean people negotiate their presence in the United States as members of a racial minority, and as an ethnic group. Their transnationalism describes a situation in which the immigrants in New York live between both societies.
