Transnational Feminisms

What is feminism? Is there more than one feminism? FeminismS? What is transnational feminisms? How have these concepts developed and what effects do they have on the world today? These are some of the main questions we will engage with this semester. The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the interdisciplinary fields of gender/feminist/women’s studies and, more specifically, transnational feminisms. This course will engage with an array of feminist themes and issues such as: the body, reproductive justice, and even the role of “the witch” within feminisms. We will also study the ways that feminisms have been created and sustained in spite of constructed borders of nation, race, sexuality and citizenship. Hence, transnational feminisms.
