Catalog description

This course introduces the foundations of personal finance with an emphasis on informed decision-making. Students will explore how emotions, habits, and beliefs influence financial choices, while gaining practical skills in budgeting, saving, investing, credit use, insurance, and debt management. The course also examines the historical and sociological context of the financial system, encouraging students to think critically about how broader economic structures and social factors shape individual financial experiences. Emphasis is placed on understanding common challenges such as financial stress and decision paralysis, and developing strategies to build confidence and resilience. By connecting financial literacy with psychological and social insight, students will strengthen their ability to make thoughtful financial decisions, support their overall well-being, and plan for long-term stability and success. Students are required to meet with a financial coach three times a semester.
