Catalog description

This course will be dedicated to a close reading of the Spanish Masterpiece La Celestina and will attend to the historical and literary contexts from which it emerged. On one hand, we will study how it is related to previous literary traditions and how it incorporates, parodies, and transforms them to invent a new narrative form. On the other hand, we will try to contextualize it within its historical moment, while exploring questions of love, eroticism, madness, witchcraft, class, and death.
