Catalog description

This class covers various issues, debates, and concepts in the use of military force by state. Specifically, it will focus on how international law and diplomatic practice regulate the use of force by states. In doing to, the course will examine the rules and institutions regulating armed conflict, international aggression, military intervention, humanitarian protection, arms control, genocide, and torture. We will also explore how such rules and institutions provide for the protection civilians how they define what constitutes a combatant.
