Politi Economy Development
CUNY City College · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
The course examines how political institutions affect economic outcomes, and how economic factors influence political institutions. We will explore this in a comparative context: across countries, across regions within the same country, and over time. In doing so, we will look at how societies achieve prosperity and well-being by examining (1) the relationships between democracy, inequality, and development; (2) the role of foreign aid and natural resources in economic advancement; and (3) the legacies of colonialism.
