Geriatrics Clerkship

Catalog description

This four-week clerkship emphasizes the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions found within the geriatric population. Rehabilitation and issues regarding quality of life are stressed. Not only will various pathologies and diseases be discussed, but also, the social and economic implications of the growing elderly population. This clerkship requires students to develop and demonstrate a variety of skills under the supervision of clinicians practicing geriatrics. The contextual approach to these disciplines will include integrating basic sciences, anatomy and physiology, embryology, ancillary diagnostics and medical terminology.
